July 28, 2008 Study for painting
A study for an acrylic painting, 36x24", on canvas which may be happening soon. I use Artrage because it simulates real paint surprisingly well. A demo version is available for free. The full version is only $25, a great bargain.

July 27, 2008 On Location...
Loi and I arrived at Snow Creek about noonish. The idea here was to use a limited range of color and value to capture the feel, at least give it try. I used the Egbert bristle which I've had for years, but just recently put into service. It's a great brush. Seems to suit me more that the other types. See it here. Still the simple three color palette: Ultra. Blue, Perm. Red Med. and Cad. Yellow Lemon. All the colors you need are there. With a little practice you can find them. Snow Creek

The setting sun made the smoke in the air much more visible obscuring the background mountain. The other direction you could still see fairly well. See the story of 'End of Day' from idea to juried show.

July 21, 2008 Bissett Accepted to OPA Show!!! Oil Painters of America is pleased to announce that its 2008 Western Regional Juried Exhibition will be held at Devin Galleries in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, beginning Friday, September 12, 2008, through Saturday, October 11, 2008. Collectors and art lovers are invited to attend the opening reception on Friday, September 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. Paintings will be available for sale at the opening reception and throughout the duration of the exhibition. In addition, gallery owners Skip and Debbie Peterson are extending an invitation to all OPA members to come and paint some of the beautiful scenery found in and around Coeur d’ Alene on Saturday, September 13, 2008. That evening, a reception will be held to showcase and sell the artwork to collectors. For more information, please e-mail Skip and Debbie at: info@devingalleries.com.OPA is very pleased to have California resident and Master Signature artist Steven Lang OPAM serving as this year’s Juror of Awards. In a few short years, the name Steven Lang has become synonymous with fine western art. He has established himself with realistic oil originals and his narratives have become a hallmark of his work and a much-appreciated insight for his collectors. Total cash awards for this year’s Western Regional are $11,500 including a $4,000 Best of Show. The public is invited to view and purchase these exceptional works of art throughout the exhibition period. Gallery viewing hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays; 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sundays. Check the acceptance list, it appears to be true!

Restaurant Closed It was a beautiful evening. We got started about 6 pm and finished up around 8:30. Had planned to paint and eat. Surprise...the place is closed and for sale!

Rose Bush The wind was really blowing this afternoon. By sitting up next to the house I was able to paint. Lots of stuff falling out of the trees overhead and onto the palette.

July 7, 2008 New Boat Poster...
This is for the annual Sandpoint antique boat show this weekend. The original is actually painted on the old nav chart for the lake using Chroma Interactive Acrylics which allows for corrections if needed. I glued the poster to hardboard with gel medium and then gave it two coats on top. Prints of this will also be available. Wooden Speed

July 7, 2008 Living Doll...
We arrived home from a week's vacation in Oregon last night. The first night we encountered this little person. At one point she asked if chicken was protein. Later she agreed to pose. I noticed the light was magical and ran for my camera.
Two sketches of Emily at the computer. She'll be on her way to China in two weeks.
